Liam Jacobs Returns to DA After Brief Stint With Patriotic Alliance

Patriotic Alliance member Liam Jacobs has rejoined the Democratic Alliance after less than a year away.

Reports indicate that DA Federal Chairperson and Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis supported the move. He reportedly motivated for Jacobs’ return during an online party meeting on Sunday.

As a result, the DA approved Jacobs’ return in a consulting role.

From PA Back to the DA

Jacobs left the DA in June 2025 and later joined the Patriotic Alliance, led by Gayton McKenzie.

At the time, he openly criticised his former party. He also celebrated his switch to the PA.

During his departure, Jacobs declared that he was “finally free” and “finally home”.

However, his latest move signals a sharp political shift. Consequently, many supporters and critics may question the decision.

His return could also spark debate within both parties. Previous comments made after his departure remain fresh in many minds.

Election Season Shapes Political Moves

Before leaving, Jacobs became one of the DA’s most visible young leaders.

He exited during growing internal tensions and political changes ahead of the 2026 local elections.

Meanwhile, political parties have intensified preparations for November’s Local Government Elections.

Recruitment drives, campaign efforts and strategic appointments now dominate party agendas.

Against this backdrop, Jacobs’ return adds another development to the evolving political landscape.

The DA is expected to announce more details about his responsibilities in the coming days.
