Music icon Lionel Richie has been hospitalised in St. Louis after appearing to struggle during a concert over the weekend.

The 77-year-old singer is currently in an intensive care unit while doctors conduct medical tests.

According to TMZ, Richie checked himself into a local hospital after performing at The Muny in Forest Park on Saturday, August 29.

Sources with direct knowledge of the situation said doctors are investigating possible slight dehydration.

Richie reportedly raised concern among concertgoers during the final part of his performance.

The singer was performing his closing number, the classic hit “All Night Long”, when he asked members of his team to bring him a chair.

He subsequently completed the performance while seated.

The incident reportedly left some fans concerned about his condition.

Despite the apparent difficulty towards the end of the show, Richie managed to finish his set before seeking medical attention.

Richie is reportedly being cautious while doctors carry out further checks.

Sources said the singer hopes to leave hospital on Tuesday, although his discharge will depend on his medical condition.

The current hospitalisation comes after another health scare earlier this year.

Richie experienced dizziness during a performance in St Paul, Minnesota, in June.

The incident occurred during the opening night of his tour with Earth, Wind & Fire on June 24.

During the show, Richie reportedly told the audience that he felt “dizzy” and “strange” before bringing the performance to an early end.

Paramedics later attended to him backstage and transported him to hospital by ambulance.

Richie subsequently returned to performing after the incident.

His scheduled shows continued following the June health scare.

The latest hospitalisation has once again raised concerns about the veteran singer’s health as he undergoes medical evaluation in St. Louis.
