Local Hero Sirizani Butau Receives Toyota Fortuner And US$50,000 From Wicknell Chivayo

Philanthropic businessman Wicknell Chivayo has gifted Zimbabwean local hero Sirizani Butau a Toyota Fortuner and US$50,000.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Chivayo sang praises for the brave man who risked his wellbeing to save people from a burning bus.

In 2021, SIRIZANI fearlessly RISKED his OWN LIFE to save others from a deadly inferno along the Harare – Mutare highway following a TRAGIC accident involving a fuel tanker carrying over 50,000 litres of petrol. The accident ignited MASSIVE flames and the real threat of an EXPLOSION. Sarizini did not run away like most of us would. Instead, he ran TOWARDS the fire and pulled out trapped passengers from the burning wreckage, risking his own life so that others could LIVE.

The Incident that earned Sirizani Butau Hero Status

The scene on the Harare-Mutare highway in 2021 was one of pure terror. A catastrophic accident involving a fuel tanker carrying a colossal 50,000 litres of petrol had erupted into a deadly inferno. With massive flames licking the sky and the ever-present, terrifying threat of a major explosion, most instinctively fled to safety.

Yet, amidst the chaos, one man ran in the opposite direction. Sirizani Butau, defying every human impulse for self-preservation, charged directly towards the burning wreckage. His mission was singular: to pull trapped passengers from the fiery grasp of the accident.

Sirizani Butau’s incredible bravery did not go unnoticed by the highest offices in the land. In a moving ceremony, his heroism was given special national recognition. He was awarded the prestigious Gold Cross of Zimbabwe Award, one of the nation’s highest civilian honours for bravery, presented by His Excellency, the President Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa.

The recognition for Butau’s heroism has now extended beyond the medal. In a stunning and generous turn of events, Chivayo, moved by his story, has come forward with a life-changing reward.

In a heartfelt message, he suggested he might even consider starting his own trucking business, noting that he has “proven yourself to be a man of steel and courage.” They added a poignant blessing, saying,

“May God bless you abundantly for your sacrifice. Your scars are medals of honour tattooed on your skin and are a permanent reminder that love still lives among us.”

The message concluded with a lesson for all,

“Chidzidziso kwatiri tese, to love one another and to always act with compassion as we are all children of God (The lesson for us all is to love one another and to always act with compassion as we are all children of God).”
