“Lottery Money Is Finished”: Mzansi Reacts as Arthur Mafokate Sues Ex-Girlfriend Cici for R1.5 Million
Veteran kwaito musician and music executive Arthur Mafokate has trggered a buzz on social media after it emerged that he is suing his ex-girlfriend, Busisiwe “Cici” Thwala, for R1.5 million in the Johannesburg High Court.
According to court documents, Mafokate alleges that a series of social media posts published by Cici in September last year were defamatory and caused significant harm to his reputation and professional standing.

Allegations of Reputational and Financial Harm
The 56-year-old claims the posts resulted in emotional distress and loss of business opportunities, arguing that the content portrayed him as violent and criminal. The disputed posts allegedly accused Mafokate of assaulting Cici and “almost murdering” her.
Mafokate further contends that images shared online — including X-rays linked to Cici’s past pelvic surgery — were used in a misleading manner to support the allegations.
Long-Running Legal Battle Resurfaces
The lawsuit marks the latest chapter in a protracted and highly publicised legal feud between the former couple, dating back to a June 2017 altercation.
At the time, Cici accused Mafokate of dragging her with his car during an argument, while Mafokate claimed she had attacked him. Both parties were later acquitted of criminal charges arising from the incident.
Mafokate was also previously acquitted of assault charges connected to the 2017 case.
Silence From Both Sides
Attempts to obtain comment from Cici’s legal representatives were unsuccessful, while Mafokate has declined to comment publicly on the matter.
The defamation claim is currently before the Johannesburg High Court, with proceedings ongoing as the court considers the case.
