Mamelodi Sundowns’ first signing of the window arrives from Europe

Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the signing of Antonio Van Wyk.

The club revealed the deal on social media on Tuesday morning.

Sundowns welcomed the 24-year-old winger to Chloorkop with a message for supporters.

“Yellow Nation, Antonio Van Wyk joins the African Champions ready to write his own chapter in yellow and blue,” the club announced. “Masandawana, make him feel at home.”

The announcement followed reports that Sundowns had already secured an agreement with Austrian club SV Ried.

The Tshwane giants also finalised personal terms before completing the transfer.

Van Wyk returns to South Africa after a successful spell in Austria.

He helped SV Ried earn promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga.

Last season, he scored three goals and provided three assists.

The club eventually finished eighth in the league standings.

Winger Returns With Valuable Experience

Before moving abroad, Van Wyk built his reputation at Stellenbosch FC.

He developed through the Ubuntu Football Academy system.

Later, he became a key player under coach Steve Barker.

The winger contributed significantly to Stellenbosch’s growth.

He also helped the club win the 2023 Carling Knockout title.

During his time at Stellenbosch, he scored six goals in 77 matches.

In addition, he registered 11 assists for the Cape side.

His performances earned him opportunities with South Africa’s COSAFA Cup squads.

He then completed his move to Europe in 2024.

Meanwhile, Sundowns tracked Van Wyk for several months.

The club previously tried to sign him during the January transfer window.

However, negotiations continued before both clubs reached an agreement.

Now, Sundowns add another attacking option to their talented squad.

His arrival increases competition in an already strong forward line.

Attention will now shift to his adaptation under Miguel Cardoso.

Supporters will eagerly watch his progress at Chloorkop.

The key question remains whether he can secure a regular place in the team.
