Limpopo Police Make Breakthrough In Zimbabwean Businessman Murder Case

The arrest follows what the South African Police Service (SAPS) described as months of intensive investigations into the killings, which occurred in August 2025.

According to IOL, SAPS Limpopo spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba said detectives tracked down the suspect in Diepkloof, Gauteng.

“Following lengthy and intensive investigations, police traced and arrested a 56-year-old male suspect at Diepkloof in Gauteng Province. The suspect is linked to the two counts of murder.”

Mashaba said investigators believe the suspect is connected to the deaths of the 37-year-old Zimbabwean businessman and his 27-year-old friend.

Victims Were Allegedly Kidnapped While Returning From Buying Stock

Police said the two men travelled to Dendron on 17 August 2025 to buy business stock, including liquor and live chickens.

According to IOL, they were driving along the R521 towards Marowe village when four unidentified men in a white Toyota Avanza allegedly kidnapped them.

Their bakkie, still loaded with the goods they had purchased, was later recovered abandoned in Ga-Semenya village near Polokwane.

Mashaba said the following day brought a tragic discovery.

“On August 18, 2025, the bodies of the two victims were discovered with gunshot wounds along a gravel road next to the R37 public road under the Westenburg policing area.”

Police subsequently opened a double murder case before transferring the investigation to the Provincial Murder and Robbery Unit.

Suspect Due In Court As Investigation Continues

The arrested man is scheduled to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 27 July 2026, facing two counts of murder.

Police have not indicated whether more arrests are expected as investigations continue into the alleged kidnapping and killings.

The arrest marks a significant development in a case that drew attention in Limpopo after the businessman and his friend disappeared while returning from a business trip in August 2025. Authorities have not released the identities of the victims.
