Man Filmed Cooking Sadza in Harare CBD Reportedly Detained

A man who went viral after he was filmed  cooking sadza in Harare’s central business district has reportedly been detained, triggering widespread reactions online.

The unidentified man, who says he is from Zengeza, attracted public attention after a video showing him preparing food along a pavement in the city centre circulated widely on social media.

Viral Clip Draws Public and Official Attention

The footage quickly gained traction online, prompting mixed reactions from members of the public. While some viewers criticised the act, others sympathised with the man, saying he was simply trying to earn a living.

The clip also caught the attention of city authorities, with the Mayor of Harare Jacob Mafume calling for stricter regulations governing night trading in the central business district following the incident.

Mixed Reactions Over Detention

Reports emerging from Crime Watch ZW alleging that the man has been detained have sparked further debate on social media.

A number of netizens expressed disappointment at the development, arguing that informal traders often resort to such measures due to limited economic opportunities.

Others, however, supported calls for stronger enforcement of city by-laws, saying activities in the CBD must be regulated for safety and order.

Olinda Chapel Pledges Financial Support

Meanwhile, businesswoman Olinda Chapel has stepped in to offer assistance to the man.

In a post shared on Facebook, Olinda Chapel pledged US$1,000 to help compensate him for the loss of income and also suggested launching a fundraising campaign to mobilise additional support.

Olinda Chapel indicated that she plans to ask other well-resourced friends to contribute to the campaign, saying the man could potentially receive up to US$10,000 in support if the initiative gains traction.
