A young man wearing headphones from Goromonzi lost his life after being it by a train this past Sunday. The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Anesu Kurima, a resident of Eureka Farm in the Melfort area.
The quiet of a Sunday morning was shattered by a fatal accident along a well-known railway stretch. According to police reports, the incident occurred at the 36-kilometre peg on the line connecting the capital city, Harare, to Mutare.
A driver was operating the locomotive, Mr George Moyo, who was forced to witness the horrifying scene unfold before him. Authorities were swiftly on the scene to begin their investigations into the circumstances that led to such a profound loss.

Man Wearing Earphones Hit By Train In Goromonzi
The train driver provided a chilling statement to the police, detailing the moments leading up to the tragedy. He reported that as he approached the specific kilometre marker, he spotted an individual lying directly across the railway tracks. The man appeared to be unaware of his perilous surroundings. Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi, the Mashonaland East Police Spokesperson, relayed the driver’s testimony, stating:
“On approaching the 36 km peg, he saw a person lying across the railway line with earphones in his ears and both his legs were crushed by the train.”
The driver acted immediately, managing to bring the massive locomotive to a halt, but it was too late to prevent the catastrophic injuries.
Following the collision, the young man was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital in a critical condition. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after being admitted. Inspector Chazovachiyi confirmed the sad outcome, noting,
“The now deceased sustained fractured legs, and he died upon admission at Parirenyatwa Hospital.”

A report was promptly filed with the Goromonzi police station, and officers, in collaboration with officials from the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ), conducted a thorough examination of the accident site. The body of Anesu Kurima has been transferred to the hospital’s mortuary, where a postmortem examination will be conducted as part of the ongoing investigative process.
