Warriors forward Tawanda Maswanhise has won the William Hill Premiership Player of the Month award. He earned it for January after scoring five goals in four league games. As a result, Motherwell stayed unbeaten throughout the month.
Motherwell now sit fourth in the table. They are only five points short of last season’s total. Meanwhile, they still have 13 league matches left.
“Just watch out for us,” says Zimbabwe star
Speaking to Sky Sports News, Maswanhise backed a title push. However, Motherwell trail leaders Hearts by 13 points.
Motherwell drew 1–1 with Rangers at Fir Park on Wednesday. They also played the final 12 minutes with 10 men.
Said Maswanhise: “You’ve seen it yesterday with one man down, every man on that pitch for Motherwell, including myself, we fought really hard to get the point that we deserved. We’ve been doing the same style of play the whole season [and] you’re starting to see more results now. You’re starting to see more success, we’re getting our plaudits. It has been good. A lot of people, a lot of players want to say it’s a three-horse race right now, but we’re still behind it. I genuinely think we can nick a few points and be in and around it. So, just watch out for us, and we should crack on.”
Goals, AFCON impact, and transfer interest
Maswanhise is the third Motherwell player to win the award in a row. He won it in November, while Elliot Watt won in December.
He has scored 13 league goals this season. Therefore, he leads the Scottish Premiership scoring chart.
He also scored for Zimbabwe at the Africa Cup of Nations in December. That strike underlined his growing influence this season.
His form then drew interest from Rangers, Celtic, and Anderlecht in January. However, Motherwell made it clear he was not for sale.
