Matopo High School Form Three Student Dies After Falling Ill at Boarding Hostel
A Form Three boarding pupil at Matopo High School has died after suddenly falling ill.
The learner reportedly became unwell after complaining of a headache the previous day. During the night, he is said to have left his hostel and gone to another boarding house, where he tried to rest.
Concern grew when fellow pupils realised he was not responding. They alerted the boarding master, and attempts to wake him were unsuccessful.
The pupil was immediately taken to Matopo Clinic but was pronounced dead on arrival in the early hours of Saturday morning.

School confirms tragic incident
Matopo High School headmaster Gardson Sibanda confirmed the learner’s death in a notice sent to parents.
When contacted for further comment, Sibanda said he was attending a meeting and was unable to provide additional information.
School community left devastated
The unexpected death has deeply affected learners, parents and staff, with one parent describing the incident as heartbreaking.
The parent, who requested anonymity, said the pupil had survived the devastating fire that destroyed the school’s boys’ hostel in July last year.
According to the parent, the learner was among the pupils who escaped unharmed during the blaze, making his sudden death even more painful for those who knew him.
The parent added that many families had been preparing to visit their children at school, only for one family to receive the devastating news that their child had died.
Investigations continue
The pupil’s body was collected on Saturday morning as police and health authorities began investigations into the cause of death.
A post-mortem examination is expected to determine what led to the learner’s sudden passing. Until then, the exact cause of death remains unknown.
