Mother Arrested After Fatally Stabbing Three-Year-Old Son

A mother from the peaceful Hobhouse suburb has been plunged into a state of profound shock and grief following a harrowing incident that resulted in the death of a three-year-old boy. Local authorities have confirmed the arrest of his mother, thirty-nine-year-old Netsai Chikuni, who stands accused of carrying out the fatal assault. According to police reports, the child, Ngonidzashe Njerera, sustained multiple stab wounds to his head and neck in an attack of unspeakable violence. The event has left the community reeling, struggling to find sense in a senseless act.

The sequence of events began on the evening of November 19th, when Chikuni and her son arrived at her brother’s residence in Hobhouse. The brother, Admire Chilamwita, was not present, having travelled to Chipinge. The tenants occupying the property allowed Chikuni entry after receiving permission from the landlord.

The evening proceeded without major incident until the early hours of the morning, when the situation descended into chaos. Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, provided a detailed account of the tragedy.

He stated,

“Around 1am, Chikuni woke up and went to the tenant’s bedroom, knocking violently. The tenant’s brother opened the door but failed to communicate with her since she was violent. He locked his door from inside.”

The situation escalated rapidly from there. Assistant Inspector Chinyoka continued,

“After about five minutes, the tenant heard Chikuni shouting at her child, saying: ‘Idya chingwa ukuda kundiurayisa’ (Eat your bread, you want to kill me). The tenant also heard Chikuni assaulting Ngonidzashe, and she did not come out because of fear.”

The sounds of the assault continued for hours before an eerie silence fell, prompting the terrified tenants to alert the neighbours and police.

A tenant who witnessed the aftermath, and who spoke on condition of anonymity, described a scene of utter bedlam. They revealed that Chikuni’s behaviour was erratic and terrifying from the outset, suggesting a person in the grips of a severe psychological crisis.

“She was appearing confused, depressed and possessed when she came here,” the tenant recounted. “We tried to stop her, insisting that we should get permission first from the landlord before allowing her in the house. She ignored us, stormed into the house.”

The tenant’s testimony paints a picture of an unstoppable force, a mother seemingly detached from reality. They described the horrifying sounds of the attack, stating,

“We heard her smashing her son on the walls until he stopped crying. She stabbed him on the head and blood splashed all over the walls and kitchen furniture. She was so violent and no one could stop her.”

During the frenzy, Chikuni was heard shouting disturbing phrases, including,

“Makandiuraya, ndakaurayiwa, ma next door hamundionewo here. Ndaka kidnapwa ndakaurayiwa hamundionewo here.” (You have killed me, I have been killed, you next door, don’t you see me? I was kidnapped and killed, don’t you see me?).

When authorities arrived, they discovered the young boy’s lifeless body in a pool of blood, with his mother, who had inflicted wounds upon her own legs and hands, asleep beside him. Police investigations into the motive behind this devastating act are ongoing.
