Mukuru Robbery: Police Details How Armed Robbers Stole More than US$78 000 and R501 000
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have provided new details about an armed robbery which took place at a Mukuru branch in Bulawayo on Wednesday morning.
The suspects made off with more than US$78 000 and R501 000.
Police Launch Investigation into Bulawayo Mukuru Robbery
In a statement, the police confirmed the robbery which happened at Mukuru, located along Jason Moyo Street, between 8th and 9th Avenue. The Police said they are actively investigating the incident
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating a case of armed robbery which occurred on 04 March 2026 at around 0708 hours at a financial services outlet, located along Jason Moyo Street, between 8th and 9th Avenue, Bulawayo.”

Employee Targeted as She Arrived
Preliminary investigations indicate that a female employee was approached by the suspects as she arrived for work. Police explained:
“A female employee at the shop was approached by unknown suspects while parking a motor vehicle upon arrival for duty. The suspects forcibly escorted her into the offices and ordered her to open the strong room and a Chubb safe.”
Under threat, the employee complied, giving the robbers access to the safe.
Cash and Equipment Stolen
The ZRP confirmed the total amount taken from the premises:
“The total amount stolen is USD 78 141.00 and ZAR 501 820.00.”
The suspects also removed security equipment, including a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) and a panic button, before escaping through the back door.
Police Appeal for Public Assistance
No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing. Police have called on anyone with information to come forward:
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing for information which may assist in the on-going investigations to contact the National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp 0712 800 197, or report at any nearest police station.”
