Mutasa Man in Court Over Alleged “Mubobobo” Claims Involving Daughters-in-Law

A family in Mutasa, Manicaland Province, is in turmoil after shocking allegations surfaced. The claims accuse a father of sexually abusing his daughters-in-law using spiritual powers. Locally, this disturbing practice is known as mubobobo.

The matter came before Chief Mutasa’s community court for urgent attention. Jonathan Nyaumwe accused his father, Luka (Luke) Nyaumwe, of interfering in their marriages. He claimed his father spiritually intruded during intimate moments.

Jonathan said the alleged acts traumatised both daughters-in-law. As a result, the couples struggle to maintain normal married lives. He added the situation has created fear and confusion within their households.

Said Jonathan: “The problem is that whenever I try to be intimate with my wife, she sees my father’s face on me. The same thing has been happening to my younger brother and his wife. Every time they try to be together as a couple, his wife sees our father’s face. Our wives are terrified. We cannot be intimate because of what they see. This has caused tension in our marriages and suspicion among family members. We do not know what to do anymore.”

Traditional Healer Visit and Family Fallout

Jonathan said the disturbing incidents persisted for some time. Eventually, the family took their father to a traditional healer. They hoped to uncover the cause of the alleged spiritual interference. At the healer’s place, Luka was reportedly caught red-handed. Jonathan said his father admitted collecting luck charms during his youth.

He added: “When we went to tell our sister what had happened, my father suddenly denied everything and said it was all lies. That is why we are now here before the court, seeking help.”

Chief Mutasa summoned the daughters-in-law to testify before the court. Both women confirmed the disturbing experiences. They said they saw their father-in-law’s face during intimate moments.

However, Luka denied deliberately practising mubobobo. He also denied collecting charms for such purposes. He suggested someone could be using him without his knowledge.

He said he learned about the claims only after confrontation by his sons. They then took him to a traditional healer. There, a lizard was reportedly found in his jacket. Luka insisted he did not know it was there.

According to Luka, the healer linked the lizard to mubobobo. The healer reportedly destroyed it immediately. The widower said the allegations deeply troubled him. He said they hurt more because they involved his daughters-in-law.

He said: “All I want is help. I do not want to continue terrorising my daughters-in-law if this thing is truly happening. I am an old man, and I want peace in my family.”

Chief Mutasa Calls for Healing and Warns Against Abuse

Luka asked the court to help find a permanent solution. He insisted he had no ill intentions. He said he only wanted peace within his family. Chief Mutasa praised Luka for being honest before the court. He said honesty saves time and promotes healing.

The chief instructed the family to seek help from a reputable traditional healer. He emphasised cleansing and protecting the household. He stressed unity and healing over blame.

However, the chief also addressed broader societal concerns. He warned against the misuse of spiritual practices.

He said: “There are old men who are greedy and abuse these dark practices to feast on younger women. That behaviour is unacceptable and destroys families. This court will not tolerate elders who misuse their positions or age to prey on younger women through spiritual means.”

The court adjourned the case to allow the family to follow directives. Chief Mutasa emphasised reconciliation and restoring family harmony.
