New Details Emerge After Alick Macheso Escapes Road Crash Unhurt
Fresh details have emerged surrounding the road accident involving celebrated sungura musician Alick Macheso, with his management confirming that the award-winning artist escaped without injuries and is recovering at home.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday along Mutoko Road near the Blue Ridge area as the musician was travelling from a performance.
While the accident left the vehicle extensively damaged, Macheso’s camp says the musician was fortunate to walk away unharmed.

Musician Was Travelling as Passenger
According to his spokesperson, Tich Makahamadze, Macheso was not behind the wheel when the collision occurred.
Instead, the musician was seated in the rear of the vehicle while his driver handled the journey home. The arrangement, Makahamadze explained, is common after performances as the veteran entertainer is often exhausted from long nights on stage.
He said the team was alerted to the accident early on Sunday and immediately moved to establish the well-being of everyone who had been travelling in the vehicle.
Rumours Spark Online Confusion
The accident quickly became a topic of discussion on social media, with various claims circulating about Macheso’s condition.
However, his management has dismissed reports suggesting that the musician suffered injuries, insisting that he is safe and resting comfortably.
Makahamadze also appealed for greater responsibility on social media platforms, saying inaccurate information and speculation had caused unnecessary alarm among fans and well-wishers.
Clarification on Damaged Vehicle
The crash also triggered confusion over the identity of the vehicle involved.
Some social media users claimed the damaged car was the luxury Mercedes-Benz gifted to Macheso by businessman Sir Wicknell Chivayo in 2024.
His camp has since clarified that the vehicle involved was a Toyota Fortuner GD6 and not the Mercedes-Benz GLE400d he received as a gift last year.
Photographs from the scene reportedly showed significant damage to both the front and rear sections of the Fortuner.
Fans Rally Behind Sungura Legend
As news of the accident spread, fans flooded social media and contacted members of Macheso’s team seeking updates on his condition.
His spokesperson expressed gratitude for the concern shown by supporters, saying the overwhelming response reflected the strong bond between the musician and his followers.
The team maintained that all occupants of the vehicle escaped serious harm and described the crash as an unfortunate road incident attributed to human error.

Macheso joins a growing list of prominent Zimbabwean personalities who have recently been involved in traffic accidents.
Despite the incidents attracting public attention because of the people involved, many have been linked to driver mistakes rather than mechanical faults.
