From Empty Shelves To Restocking: OK Zimbabwe Begins Road To Recovery
OK Zimbabwe is beginning to rebuild its retail operations, with shelves being replenished and previously closed branches gradually returning to business.
The retailer’s recovery is being driven by renewed access to credit and the return of major suppliers who had withdrawn or reduced deliveries during its financial difficulties.
The latest developments are giving the company an opportunity to restore its presence in the market and win back customers.

Major brands return
Some of Zimbabwe’s biggest manufacturers have resumed supplying the retailer after confidence in its ability to meet its obligations improved.
According to ZBC News, Dairibord, ZimGold, Olivine, National Foods and Nestlé are among the suppliers now delivering products to OK Zimbabwe.
Their return is helping restore a wider range of goods across the retailer’s stores after supply disruptions affected availability.
The replenished shelves are expected to play a key role in the company’s efforts to bring customers back.
Banks unlock access to credit
Behind the renewed stock flow is financial backing from two leading local banks.
The institutions have provided guarantees that have enabled OK Zimbabwe to access important credit facilities.
That support has given the retailer greater capacity to purchase stock and resume normal engagement with manufacturers.
The development has also helped repair relationships with suppliers whose confidence had been affected by the company’s cash-flow problems.
Closed branches begin reopening
OK Zimbabwe is not only focusing on filling its shelves.
The retailer has also started reopening branches that were shut during the worst period of its financial crisis.
Bringing the outlets back into operation is expected to expand its trading footprint and increase customer traffic.
The move signals an attempt to return the business to a broader retail network after being forced to reduce its operations.
Creditors provide breathing space
The retailer’s revival has also been made possible by an agreement with major trade creditors.
Under the arrangement, creditors agreed to postpone the settlement of legacy debts, giving OK Zimbabwe additional time and liquidity to concentrate on restarting its operations.
Corporate Rescue Practitioner Bulisa Mbano said the debt standstills had created the breathing space required to get stores operating again.
He stressed, however, that the turnaround was still at an early stage.
