Chevrons Captain Sikandar Raza Sets Tone for Zimbabwe’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Campaign

Sikandar Raza has urged Zimbabwe’s national team to stay grounded and focused as the Chevrons gear up for a tough ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 group that includes several established international sides.

Zimbabwe have been drawn alongside Australia, Sri Lanka, Ireland and Oman in what is widely seen as a demanding group.

Chevrons Complete Intensive Sri Lanka Camp

Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo on Thursday, Raza said Zimbabwe’s preparations have been thorough, highlighted by a week-long training camp in Hambantota aimed at helping the squad adapt to local conditions.

When it comes to preparation, we were in Hambantota for a week, so we had a really good camp. I want to thank Sri Lanka Cricket for hosting us and giving us the facilities to prepare well in these conditions,” Raza said.

The Chevrons will play several matches in Sri Lanka during the tournament, making early acclimatisation key to their campaign.

Oman First as Raza Narrows Focus

Despite the presence of heavyweight opponents in the group, Raza stressed that Zimbabwe are not looking beyond their opening fixture against Oman.

Regarding the plans, the first challenge is Oman. All my energy in my head is at that game. I do not want to think about too many games. We have got one game to win, which is Oman, and all my focus is on that game,” he said.

He added that attention would only shift to the remaining fixtures once Zimbabwe clear their opening hurdle.

National Duty Comes First Against Sri Lanka

Looking ahead to Zimbabwe’s clash with hosts Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Raza acknowledged the close relationships between players from the two sides, forged through years of franchise cricket.

The beauty of cricket is that it has brought a lot of countries closer. There is no secret that myself and a lot of the Sri Lankans have grown really close because we have played a lot together,”he said

However, the Zimbabwe skipper emphasised that national pride outweighs personal ties once the match begins.

“Once we put on our national jerseys, he is out there to win for his country and I am out there to win for my country. The brotherhood remains, but our real brothers are the ones who stand with us when we go on to the park,” Raza added.
