Orlando Pirates Make History by Winning First Ever DDC Title
Orlando Pirates have been crowned DStv Diski Challenge champions for the first time in the club’s history after defeating Mamelodi Sundowns 2-0 at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday.
The Buccaneers went into the final round of fixtures knowing a draw would be enough to secure the title, but they produced a commanding performance to seal the championship in style.

Pirates Take Control Before Half-Time
After a tightly contested opening period, Pirates eventually found the breakthrough five minutes before the interval.
Cristian Derbyshire rose above the Sundowns defence to head home from a corner kick and give the Soweto side a crucial lead.
The Buccaneers doubled their advantage moments later after Oratile Rantasi was brought down inside the penalty area. Mpho Padime calmly converted from the spot to put Pirates firmly in control before half-time.
Sundowns pushed for a response in the second half, but Pirates held on comfortably to secure a famous victory.
Record-Breaking Season for Buccaneers
The win saw Pirates finish the campaign at the top of the standings with 75 points from 30 matches, ahead of Sundowns, who ended second with 69 points.
The total also surpassed the previous DDC points record set by Kaizer Chiefs, who collected 70 points when they lifted the title last season.
Pirates’ consistency throughout the season ultimately proved decisive in a tightly contested race for the championship.
Chiefs End Campaign with 11-0 Rout
Earlier in the day, Kaizer Chiefs wrapped up their season with an emphatic 11-0 victory over Chippa United at the same venue.
The massive win came after a disappointing run in which Amakhosi suffered back-to-back defeats against Sundowns and Stellenbosch FC.
Despite the dominant final-day performance, Chiefs finished the season in fourth place with 49 points from 30 matches.
