Orlando Pirates releases eight players

Orlando Pirates have released eight players during the current transfer window. As a result, they rank among the busiest teams reshaping their squad.

Defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi joined MLS side Chicago Fire. There, he will face global stars, including Lionel Messi.

Sinoxolo Kwayiba became the first to leave permanently. He returned to his former club, Chippa United.

Soon after, Monnapule Saleng and Tshegofatso Mabasa also departed. Saleng shocked fans by joining rivals Mamelodi Sundowns. Meanwhile, Mabasa joined Stellenbosch FC on loan. He will work under former Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt.

Four Orlando Pirates Products Sent Out on Loan

Meanwhile, four Pirates-developed players also exited the club. All four moves were loan agreements.

Sifiso Luthuli and Siyabonga Ndlozi joined Magesi FC. In addition, Sonwabo Khumalo and Lungelo Dondolo moved to Midlands Wanderers.

These exits allow young players to gain valuable first-team experience. At the same time, Pirates reduce squad congestion.

More Departures Could Still Follow

However, Orlando Pirates may not be finished in the transfer market. Fan-favourite Relebohile Mofokeng faces strong international interest.

Several clubs have tracked him closely. These include Al-Ettifaq, Maccabi Haifa, and Maccabi Tel Aviv. Minnesota United and FC Akron have also shown interest.

Previously, Pirates rejected similar approaches. However, Mofokeng has openly expressed interest in playing abroad. Therefore, a move next season remains possible.

Finally, Evidence Makgopa could also leave Mayfair. His agent has not ruled out an overseas transfer. English Championship side Bristol City remain among interested clubs.
