Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly eyeing Portuguese tactician Pedro Soares Gonçalves as the frontrunner to step into their head coaching role following the sudden departure of Nasreddine Nabi.

Kaizer Chiefs Part Ways with Nabi

The Soweto giants are once again in search of a new leader after confirming that their relationship with Nabi had come to an end just months into his tenure.

The Tunisian coach delivered silverware by guiding Amakhosi to the Nedbank Cup — their first trophy in ten years — but their ninth-place league finish clouded the achievement.

“Kaizer Chiefs confirms that Head Coach Nasreddine Nabi is currently not with the team as discussions between the Club and the Coach remain ongoing.

Gonçalves Emerges as Leading Candidate

Reports from Portugal’s Cabine Desportiva suggest that Gonçalves, who most recently managed Angola’s national team, is high on Chiefs’ shortlist.

The 49-year-old coach left his role with Os Mambas earlier this year after their disappointing run at the CHAN tournament, where they failed to progress beyond the group stages.

Despite that setback, Gonçalves boasts an impressive record, having guided Angola to back-to-back COSAFA Cup titles. His name has also surfaced in connection with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, who are searching for a replacement after parting ways with Jose Riveiro.
