Pharmacists Issue Urgent Warning Over Allergy Tablets Being Used For Vaginal Tightening

Kenyan Women Warned Against Viral Vaginal Tightening Trend Using Allergy Tablets

Kenyan pharmacists have issued a warning to women following a viral social media trend encouraging the insertion of allergy medication into the vagina to achieve tightening. The practice involves cetirizine, a commonly used allergy drug, but health experts say it does not strengthen vaginal muscles and could cause painful complications.

The Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK) raised the alarm on Thursday, 5 November 2026, after the unusual trend gained traction on TikTok.

Cetirizine Vaginal Tightening Trend Raises Health Concerns

Social media posts have been promoting cetirizine as a way of reducing vaginal moisture and creating a tighter sensation during sexual intercourse.

However, pharmacists say the claims confuse vaginal dryness with actual muscle tightness.

The PSK warned:

“Dryness is not tightness… instead, it may increase friction, discomfort, and the risk of tissue injury.”

The professional body also cautioned against inserting oral medication into the vagina.

“Cetirizine tablets are made to be swallowed. Their ingredients have not been tested on delicate vaginal tissue.”

Cetirizine is normally used to relieve allergy symptoms, including sneezing, itchy eyes, runny noses and skin reactions.

Kenya Pharmacists Warn Women About Possible Complications

The PSK urged women who have already tried the practice to stop immediately. It advised anyone experiencing pain, bleeding, burning, itching, unusual discharge or fever to seek medical attention.

The warning follows concerns raised by Kenya’s Ministry of Health on Wednesday, 4 November 2026. Senior health official Ouma Oluga also expressed concern about people dismissing professional medical advice circulating around the trend.

The PSK further acknowledged reports of increased demand, rising prices and shortages of cetirizine in some pharmacies. It urged retailers not to exploit the situation or make the medicine inaccessible to allergy sufferers.

The society concluded by reminding the public to consult qualified pharmacists before using medication for purposes other than those for which it was intended.
