Capitalk FM Shake-Up As Phathisani Sibanda And Yvonne Tivatye Reportedly Out
Capitalk FM personalities Phathisani Sibanda and Yvonne Tivatye have reportedly been retrenched from the station, months after they became central figures in the controversy surrounding gifts from businessman Wicknell Chivayo. The latest development has revived interest in the saga, which also involved a reported Waterfalls house for Sibanda.
Capitalk FM Retrenchment Reports Emerge
ZimCelebs Official reported on 21 September 2026 that Sibanda and Tivatye had reportedly been retrenched.
The report does not establish that the alleged job losses are connected to the Chivayo controversy.
The controversy began in May after Chivayo offered vehicles to Sibanda and Tivatye and US$1,000 (approximately R16,251) to each of 30 Zimpapers radio employees. Zimpapers subsequently reiterated its policy limiting gifts to US$100 (approximately R1,625).
The Waterfalls House That Added Another Twist
Sibanda’s Chivayo connection went beyond the vehicle controversy. On 14 May 2026, Chivayo said Sibanda could acquire a Waterfalls house for US$80 (approximately R1,300), despite claiming the property was worth US$150,000 (approximately R2.44 million). iHarare reported the arrangement at the time.
By 6 July 2026, Sibanda had publicly showcased the house, thanking Chivayo for what he described as a life-changing gesture.
