Pitso Mosimane Expands Youth Vision as PMYF Enters Gauteng Development League

Pitso Mosimane Secures Gauteng League Status for Youth Development Programme

Renowned football coach Pitso Mosimane has taken a significant step in advancing youth football development after his organisation secured a place in the Gauteng Development League (GDL).

The move sees Pitso Mosimane Youth Football (PMYF) acquire the GDL status previously held by East Rand Athletic FC, with the transition taking effect on 20 April 2026.

Bridging the Gap in Player Development

The acquisition is expected to strengthen the pathway from grassroots football to elite competition. The GDL is considered the top tier of youth football in Gauteng, providing a competitive platform for emerging talent.

With this development, players from the Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools and Pitso Mosimane Football Club will now have a clearer route into structured, high-level competition.

Agreement Finalised with East Rand Athletic

The transition follows a formal agreement between PMYF and East Rand Athletic FC, in line with regulations set by the South African Football Association.

Former chairman Dr Khanyeza expressed confidence in the handover, saying the club’s future would be secure under Mosimane’s leadership.

He noted that while East Rand Athletic was built to serve the community, the time had come for experienced leadership to take the project forward.

Stability and Continuity Assured

PMYF has indicated that it will retain the existing players and much of the technical team, ensuring continuity while integrating its own development philosophy and resources.

The organisation says this approach will preserve the club’s identity while enhancing opportunities for growth and performance.

Trials Open for New Talent

As part of the expansion, PMYF has announced open trials aimed at identifying new players from across the region.

The trials are scheduled for the long weekends of 25–27 April and 1–3 May 2026, with further details to be shared عبر the organisation’s social media platforms.

“Defining Moment” for the Project

Mosimane described the development as a major milestone in the evolution of his football programme.

We have intentionally built each layer of our programme, and this step allows us to connect everything into a meaningful pathway,” he said.

He added that the move strengthens opportunities for players while reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to long-term football development.
