Police Arrest Four Suspects Over Robberies and Vehicle Theft

Police have arrested four suspects following a series of robberies and vehicle theft cases across Zimbabwe.

The incidents occurred in Nyanga, Mutare, Harare and Mayobodo between September and October 2026. The cases involve an armed shop robbery, a stolen Toyota Hiace and two separate attacks on victims.

Meanwhile, police investigations continue into some of the incidents, including a Harare robbery involving two suspects who remain at large.

Nyanga Robbery and Mutare Vehicle Theft

In Nyanga, police arrested Maxwell Tangwena, 45, over an alleged robbery at Nyamhanda Business Centre. The incident occurred in Nyamaropa on October 9, 2026.

According to the allegations, Tangwena entered a shop carrying a pellet gun. He allegedly pointed the weapon at the complainant before firing a shot into the air.

The suspect reportedly stole groceries and US$5 in cash. However, the complainant managed to escape and alert officers at ZRP Nyamaropa.

Police subsequently arrested Tangwena in connection with the incident.

Elsewhere, officers arrested Obvious Charamba, 55, following the theft of a Toyota Hiace in Mutare. The vehicle disappeared from Glow Petroleum service station on October 3.

The complainant had parked the vehicle at the service station at approximately 10pm. However, the owner reportedly left the keys inside the ignition.

Charamba allegedly took advantage of the situation and drove away in the unattended vehicle. Police later arrested him in connection with the theft.

Harare Street Robbery and Mayobodo Tuckshop Attack

In Harare, police arrested Stephen Madzoro and Munashe Gurupira over an alleged street robbery. The incident occurred at the corner of Robert Mugabe Way and Angwa Street on October 5.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) identified the two men as suspects in the case. However, police allege that two additional accomplices participated in the robbery and remain at large.

The group allegedly attacked the complainant and stole his cellphone and US$135 in cash. Investigations into the incident are continuing.

Meanwhile, police arrested Msizi Khumalo, 21, over an alleged robbery at a tuckshop in Mayobodo. The incident occurred at approximately 10pm on September 28.

Khumalo allegedly entered the shop and attacked the operator while demanding money. During the confrontation, he reportedly stabbed the complainant once in the left arm.

The suspect allegedly escaped with cash and three cellphones. Authorities valued the stolen property at US$598.

Police have arrested suspects in all four cases described, although two alleged accomplices in the Harare robbery remain at large.
