Police in Mashonaland West have introduced traffic restrictions affecting haulage trucks travelling between Chinhoyi and Harare.
The restrictions took effect on Tuesday, 13 October 2026, and apply to trucks travelling in both directions.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) announced the measure to ease congestion during the ongoing ZANU PF conference at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT).
Police Direct Haulage Trucks to Alternative Routes
Under the new arrangement, haulage truck drivers must avoid the Harare-Chirundu Road between Chinhoyi and Harare.
Instead, police have directed motorists to use the Chinhoyi-Chegutu Road.
Drivers heading to Harare must then take the Robert Mugabe Highway, which connects with the Harare-Bulawayo Road at Norton.
The police emphasised that the restrictions were necessary to maintain smooth traffic movement during the political gathering.
“ZRP Mashonaland West Province advises those in the transport industry, particularly haulage trucks, that they are restricted to use the Harare-Chirundu road from Chinhoyi to Harare starting today, Tuesday 13 October 2026,” reads the statement.
The statement further outlined the alternative route and urged drivers to comply with the new arrangements.
“Drivers are urged to proceed via the Chinhoyi-Chegutu road, and those proceeding to Harare will then use the Robert Mugabe Highway linking with the Harare-Bulawayo road at Norton. The same applies to those using the road from Harare to Chinhoyi.
“The inconvenience has been necessary to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic during the ongoing ZANU PF Conference at Chinhoyi University of Technology.
“We appeal to drivers to cooperate with the Police and adhere to all road rules and regulations.”
ZANU PF Conference Disrupts CUT Students
Meanwhile, the conference has also disrupted accommodation arrangements for students at Chinhoyi University of Technology.
Hundreds of students have reportedly been ordered to leave both on-campus and off-campus residences to accommodate conference delegates.
Those affected include students residing at Varsity Heights in Chinhoyi.
The accommodation facility will house delegates attending the 23rd ZANU PF Annual National People’s Conference.
Consequently, the event has created challenges for students who must find alternative places to stay during the gathering.
