Authorities are hunting a man accused of murdering his former girlfriend. The tragedy unfolded after she ended their relationship upon the shocking discovery that he was already married. A widespread manhunt is now underway.
The incident occurred on the night of Wednesday, 28 January 2026, at a guest house in Nkayi Centre, Zimbabwe. Police have named Sicelinkosi Masuku as their prime suspect in the killing of Princess Janet Magonya Dakamela. He allegedly attacked her at her workplace before fleeing the scene.
A Relationship Built On A Lie
Investigations paint a picture of a relationship founded on deception. According to police, Dakamela had been living and working in South Africa, where she met Masuku. Their romance ended abruptly when she learned the truth he had concealed: he had a wife.
Having discovered his marital status, Dakamela made the decisive choice to leave. She ended the relationship and returned to her home country, Zimbabwe.
However, Masuku reportedly could not accept her rejection. Police allege he followed her from South Africa last week, embarking on a campaign of stalking. This pursuit reached its horrific conclusion at the Nkayi guest house. A police statement outlines the allegation:
“It is alleged that the suspect tracked the victim to a guest house at Nkayi Centre, where he brutally attacked and killed her before fleeing the area.”
A Chilling Prelude To Violence
The period leading up to the murder was marked by terror for the victim. Police revealed that Dakamela had received multiple threatening messages from the suspect. These communications allegedly contained explicit warnings of violence should she refuse to reconcile with him. One particularly menacing message was cited by investigators. Masuku had written:
“If l don’t have you, noone will have you.”
The case, registered as CR 67/01/26, has taken on an international dimension. While Masuku is believed to still be in Zimbabwe, police suspect he may be attempting to flee back to South Africa. His last known address is in Ivory Park, Thembisa, Gauteng Province. Complicating the search, authorities have noted that the suspect has a twin brother, a fact that could hinder identification efforts.
Appeal For Public Assistance
An urgent appeal for information has been issued to communities in both Zimbabwe and South Africa. Law enforcement is pleading for the public’s help to locate the fugitive. The official appeal states:
“Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Sicelinkosi Masuku is urged to report to the nearest police station or contact the Officer-in-Charge, Nkayi Police Station, on +263 55 255 8221.”
