A Prince Edward School student has been arrested after a violent altercation with a housemaid, with police revealing the full details to quash rampant online speculation. The arrest, which occurred earlier this month, was captured in a video that spread rapidly across social media, sparking intense debate and numerous false claims about the nature of the incident. Authorities have now stepped in to provide a clear account of the events that led to the juvenile’s detention, clarifying the dramatic scenes witnessed in the now-viral footage.

Dramatic Footage Of The Arrest

The video that flooded social media platforms depicted a highly charged and dramatic arrest operation. A group of police officers, armed with guns and tear smoke canisters, was seen entering a house and conducting a meticulous, room-by-room search for the suspect. The tension inside the flat was palpable. At one point, a man assisting the police walked into the lounge area and, after looking around, shouted to people outside that the suspect had escaped.

The situation shifted in an instant. Moments later, the same man was heard urgently shouting for the police to rush in, announcing he had successfully located the suspect. The officers immediately burst into the room and converged on the juvenile, who was found hiding under a set of curtains next to a large box. The police quickly apprehended the visibly shaken suspect, who was already bleeding from a wound on his hands, and placed him in handcuffs. As they led him from the apartment, an unidentified man attempted to manhandle the juvenile, but the officers were firm in their control, warning that they would not allow such actions. The crowd outside could be heard admonishing the student’s alleged “love for money.”

In response to the video and the conspiracy theories it spawned, the Zimbabwe Republic Police released an official statement on 25 October 2025. Police Spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi provided a detailed chronology, confirming the arrest was in connection with an attack, not a murder, and had occurred almost two weeks prior.

Commissioner Paul Nyathi stated:

“Reference is made to a video which has gone viral on social media platforms in which a form four learner is seen being arrested by the Police for attacking a housemaid (28). The ZRP confirms that the incident occurred on 12 October 2025 at Zambezi Flats, Mabelreign, Harare.”

The Confrontation That Sparked The Violence

The police investigation established a clear sequence of events. The confrontation began inside the Mabelreign flat after the housemaid confronted the 16-year-old student about missing money. This accusation allegedly triggered a violent and sustained assault on the 28-year-old woman.

The ZRP spokesperson detailed the alleged assault, saying:

“Investigations by the police have established that the learner (16) attacked the maid with an electric shocker before stabbing her with a kitchen knife multiple times on the neck after she had confronted him for stealing US$100 (R1,860) from her room.”

The suspect has been arrested and referred to court, where he was remanded in custody. The victim is alive and is recovering from the wounds she sustained during the attack.
