Prophet Walter Magaya And Wife’s Court Case Postponed To December

Prophet Walter Magaya, the founder of the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries’ fraud case has been postponed. The case, which also implicates his wife, Tendai Magaya, was postponed this week, with the Harare Magistrates Court scheduling the next hearing for the 9th of December. The state prosecutor informed the court that their investigations into the complex matter are not yet complete, citing that several key statements remain unrecorded.

While the defence team agreed to the postponement, their lawyer indicated they would be seeking more concrete progress by the year’s end. He stated, “We have consented to this postponement, but we have placed the State on notice. Our expectation is to be furnished with a trial date when we return on the 9th of December.” The couple, who remain on bail, appeared before Magistrate Mrs Gofa Marehwanazvo for what were described as routine remand proceedings.

At the heart of the financial accusations are the couple’s companies, Planet Africa Private Limited and Yadah Connect Private Limited. They stand accused of orchestrating a failed land scheme that allegedly defrauded thirteen individuals. The combined losses from the complainants are said to be a substantial US$49,240 (approximately R900,000) and R195,000 in direct cash payments. The case sees Prophet Magaya confronting a staggering 78 separate counts of fraud related to this deal alone.

A source close to the investigations shed some light on the victims’ plight, remarking, “These are people who put their faith and their life savings into what they believed was a genuine opportunity. The money involved, nearly US$50,000 and another R195,000, represents shattered dreams for many families.” The allegations paint a picture of a property venture that collapsed, leaving investors out of pocket and sparking the serious criminal charges.

Compounding the prophet’s legal troubles are separate and even more grave charges. Beyond the financial improprieties, Walter Magaya is also confronting five distinct counts of rape. These allegations form a separate and severe case that continues to cast a long shadow over the clergyman and his ministry. The juxtaposition of fraud charges with those of a violent personal nature has sent shockwaves through his congregation and the wider public.

A regular attendee at the court proceedings observed, “It is a lot for anyone to process. The man who millions look to for spiritual guidance is now fighting to clear his name on multiple fronts. The world is watching, and the December date cannot come soon enough for those seeking answers.” As the Magayas left the courthouse, the weight of the ongoing cases was palpable, with the nation awaiting the next chapter in this unfolding drama set for the 9th of December.
