Proteas Strike Gold: What They Earned After Beating Zimbabwe at T20 World Cup
The South Africa national cricket team are continuing their impressive run at the ongoing T20 World Cup, adding another victory – and significant earnings – after defeating neighbours Zimbabwe by five wickets on Sunday.
The win keeps South Africa unbeaten in the tournament, boosting their momentum ahead of the semi-finals.

Half a Million More in the Bank
According to The South African, following the latest victory, each member of the Proteas earned a match bonus of US$31,194 (roughly R500,000).
The team has now amassed a total of R3.5 million in bonuses after wins over Canada, Afghanistan, New Zealand, the UAE, India, the West Indies, and Zimbabwe.
While these bonuses are substantial, the bigger prize awaits in the semi-finals and the eventual T20 World Cup title, with millions more at stake for the tournament winners.
Semi-Final Set Against New Zealand
South Africa now face New Zealand in the semi-finals on Wednesday, 4 March, at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens.
Despite having already beaten New Zealand convincingly in the group stage by seven wickets, captain Aiden Markram cautions that knock-out matches are unpredictable.
“New Zealand are a quality team. They’ve proved that over many years now. It’s a semifinal, which is exciting as well, so I don’t think it’s as straightforward as just being able to repeat that victory again. There are a lot of variables in this game. But the boys are very excited for the opportunity and we’ll try to bring our best game again,” Markram said.
SA Eyes First World Cup Glory
South Africa are the only unbeaten side in the semi-finals, aiming to shake off their reputation for faltering at the final stages of World Cups.
The other semi-final sees India take on England on Thursday, 5 March. With all teams yet to lift a cricket World Cup, the competition promises high drama as the knock-out stages begin.
For the Proteas, every win not only strengthens their title ambitions but also fills their coffers as they chase both glory and significant prize money.
