“They Had Done Everything Right”
Announcing the death, Mliswa shared an emotional tribute reflecting both personal grief and communal loss.
“I find myself in deep sorrow at the untimely passing away of Tanaka Manjengwa, a remarkable young guy whose recent wedding to Kundai Mutasa I had the privilege of attending,” he wrote.
“They represented a radiant couple, having navigated their journey together with grace and purpose. They had done everything right!”
He went on to describe Tanaka as a young man whose presence stood out wherever he went.
“The loss of such a vibrant soul, so early in life, casts a profound shadow over us all. Tanaka embodied the essence of youthful exuberance, a spirit that shone brightly among us.”
Extending condolences, he added:
“My heartfelt condolences go out to Oliver and Chipo Mutasa, as well as the Manjengwa family. May they find solace in this difficult time of grief. Haa tabaiwa chaiko (this has truly struck us), my heart aches deeply. May Tanaka’s soul find eternal peace.”
A Voice Known As “Mr Soul Touch”
Beyond his marriage, Tanaka was known in creative circles as a radio presenter and music enthusiast who branded himself “Mr Soul Touch.” In a published interview he described himself as a conservative young radio DJ with ambitions that extended beyond broadcasting.
“As an entertainer, I want to branch into being an MC, voice over artist, advertising, modelling, etc.,” he said at the time.
He credited God, his family and his partner as anchors in his life, and spoke openly about the difficulties of building a media career outside Zimbabwe.
“It’s really a ‘who you know’ game to be able to crack into radio, in Zim and outside,” he explained.
Tanaka also encouraged aspiring presenters to use online platforms to sharpen their craft.
“You don’t have to be on air to be a radio presenter. These days the internet is a platform to showcase your voice and talent,” he said.
Wedding Celebrated In 2025
Tanaka’s wedding to Kundai Mutasa in April 2025 was publicly celebrated by Sabhuku Mliswa, who shared congratulatory messages at the time.
“Congratulations to Tanaka Manjengwa & Kundai Mutasa on their wedding. Vazukuru vangu (my grandchildren),” he wrote on April 21, 2025.
That joy has now turned into mourning, with many describing Tanaka’s death as a painful reminder of life’s fragility.
The cause of death has not been publicly disclosed at the time of publishing.
