Relebohile Mofokeng Gets New House From Irvin Khoza After Winning R200K Bet

Relebohile Mofokeng’s impressive season with Orlando Pirates earned him more than a league title, with chairman Irvin Khoza rewarding the midfielder with a house after they struck a bet before the campaign

The 21-year-old attacker struck a personal agreement with Khoza ahead of last season, with the two agreeing on a reward tied to whether Pirates would end their long wait for the league title.

Mofokeng’s father, Sechaba, has now revealed that the chairman honoured his side of the bargain after Pirates went on to win the Betway Premiership.

How Mofokeng Won A House From Irvin Khoza

According to Sechaba, the bet carried a significant financial risk for the young footballer.

If Pirates failed to win the league, Mofokeng would have to pay Khoza R200,000. However, victory would see the chairman buy him a house of his choice, IOL reveals.

Sechaba disclosed the arrangement during an interview on the second season of Giants, confirming that Khoza followed through on his promise after Pirates clinched the championship.

The agreement also reflected the close relationship between the two, with the club chairman reportedly developing a father-and-son bond with Mofokeng during his time at the Soweto giants.

Mofokeng Played Key Role In Pirates’ League Triumph

Mofokeng had plenty of reason to celebrate the outcome, having played an important role in Pirates’ successful campaign.

The attacker contributed 10 goals and eight assists as the Buccaneers finally ended their league title drought, delivering the championship that had eluded the club for years.

His performances also earned him the PSL Player of the Season award at just 21, further cementing his status as one of South Africa’s brightest football talents.

Belgian Move Brings New Chapter For Former Pirates Star

Mofokeng has since moved on from Orlando Pirates after securing a lucrative deal with Belgian side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

He has made an encouraging start to life in Europe, registering five goals and four assists as he continues to establish himself at his new club.

His progress has also strengthened his standing in the national team, where he has become an important figure for Bafana Bafana.
