Relebohile Mofokeng shines in Europa League as Union SG cruise to 4-0 victory

Relebohile Mofokeng continued his impressive start in Belgium with another influential European performance. The 21-year-old provided an assist as Union Saint-Gilloise defeated Hapoel Be’er Sheva 4-0.

Mofokeng earned an impressive match rating of 8.0/10 for his contribution. He ranked as the fourth-best performer on the pitch before leaving in the 79th minute.

The former School of Excellence graduate used his vision, technical ability and intelligent movement to trouble the opposition. Consequently, he created several opportunities and helped Union deliver a commanding performance.

Mofokeng Makes His Mark in Europe

The South African winger recorded 53 touches and completed 34 of his 40 passes. His passing accuracy reached 85%, while his accuracy in the final third stood at 86%.

Moreover, Mofokeng completed every long pass he attempted during the match. He also produced five key passes, three accurate passes into the penalty area and two progressive passes.

His attacking involvement extended beyond distribution, as he registered six touches inside the opposition penalty area.

The victory strengthened Union SG’s position in the UEFA Europa League league phase. The Belgian champions climbed to sixth place, moving ahead of established clubs such as Juventus and AC Milan.

Additionally, their earlier 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad demonstrated their ability to compete against European opposition. These results have placed the Brussels-based club in a promising position to pursue automatic qualification for the last 16.

Union SG will next face Spanish side RC Celta de Vigo on 5 November. They will aim to maintain their momentum and strengthen their position among the competition’s leading teams.

Mofokeng Enjoys Promising Start in Belgium

Mofokeng has quickly adapted to European football since joining Union SG from Orlando Pirates in August.

He has registered four goals and three assists across 13 appearances for the Belgian side. Those numbers underline his growing influence since leaving South African football.

Meanwhile, his next challenge comes in the Belgian Pro League against Cercle Brugge. The match will also bring him up against fellow South African Luke Le Roux, who plays in Cercle’s midfield.

The encounter is scheduled for Sunday, 25 October, at 20:00. Union SG will host the match at Stade Joseph Marien.

Mofokeng will hope to carry his European form into the domestic competition. Another strong display could further boost his growing reputation in Belgian football.
