The Zimbabwe Republic Police has issued a direct call to the public, urging citizens to report officers who engage in misconduct. This official directive specifically targets rogue police officers or individuals impersonating them.
The announcement was made on the official ZRP X account on the evening of October 21, 2025. The force stated:
“The ZRP urges members of the public to report rogue police officers or individuals impersonating police officers who engage in misconduct such as demanding bribes, suspicious behavior or failure to produce identification. The public should contact the following hotlines, 0713 407 906 / (0242) 443 457/ (0242) 703631 or report at any nearest Police Station.”
This directive comes amidst a wave of public commentary alleging widespread corruption and unprofessional behaviour within the police force.
Public Outcry Over Alleged Rogue Cops
The police announcement sparked an immediate and massive reaction from the public on social media. Many users shared their own experiences and scepticism regarding the initiative. A significant number of comments alleged that corrupt practices by officers are a common occurrence.
One user, Weston Marimo, responded with laughter and a pointed comment, writing:
“Kkkkkkk mukati rega timbonzwa hasha dzema citizens henyu. I think most of your officers are rogue.”
(Kkkkkkk but let’s just hear the anger of your citizens. I think most of your officers are rogue.)
Another user, DR Ghetto Elder@large, suggested a drastic solution, stating:
“Ingobvisa police yese paroad, ndoparikuitwa izvozvo everyone everywhere is taking bribes paroad.”
(Just remove all police from the road, that’s where it is being done, everyone everywhere is taking bribes on the road.)
The sentiment that the entire force is compromised was echoed by Cuthbert, who simply said:
“The entire police force is rogue.”
User kayzMk suggested an alternative approach, posting:
“simple chingo sungayi police yese those guys need maworkshops to remind them basa ravo.”
(simple just arrest all the police, those guys need workshops to remind them of their job.)
Dzecahtakie focused on the public’s role in corruption, stating:
“Wese arikupa mapurisa bribe ngaasungwe that’s the only way out from corruption.”
(Everyone who is giving the police a bribe should be arrested, that’s the only way out from corruption.)
Specific Allegations From Motorists And Residents
Several users provided detailed accounts of what they perceive as harassment and corruption. Taku Mwenda reported a common grievance, posting:
“Police are Harrassing motorist out there please do something about it.”
A more vivid description of alleged unprofessional conduct came from Cephas Makavi, who claimed:
“You find a police officer kneeling down checking under neath the car as if he is a vid officer checking bushes, shock pads etc ha Zimbabwe is a crime scene zvaizvez vi.”
Jade gave a detailed list of demands allegedly made by officers from the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) inspectorate, saying:
“CvR license inspectorate are demanding the following, swipe machines, receipt books, fire compliance, tv licence, in fact they are so demanding you will definitely pay them to leave. Kokana vachiita zvemoto vanodiiko kuuya neveFire panekuti vazovhara pasiiwa nevemoto nekanzur vac.”

“Go ku Mbare at your own risk.”
User Madyirapazhe expressed a feeling of insecurity, writing:

A Call For Action Amidst Mixed Reactions
While the majority of responses were critical, a few users thanked the ZRP for the announcement. MKASTROH wrote:
“Noted ZRP, thank you.”
Paul Mukema also posted:
“Thank you ZRP.”
However, many questioned the practicality of the directive. Barrister Samaita 01 asked pointedly:
“Report to who.”
Richard Tawa Kunaka identified one of the key issues the ZRP is targeting, noting:
“Failure to produce an ID is one common misconduct.”
Mashonaland Freedom Fighters offered a defence of the police, stating:
“Good Evening… Our Zimbabwe Republic Police Personnel Are The Best In The Region, People Are Very Disrespectful To The Police Officers Now Adays, Whoever Comes To The Police Camp Complaining Against Them, Vharirai Nhubu Iyoyo!!”
(Good Evening… Our Zimbabwe Republic Police Personnel Are The Best In The Region, People Are Very Disrespectful To The Police Officers Nowadays, Whoever Comes To The Police Camp Complaining Against Them, arrest that miscreant!!)
The ZRP’s call to action is now in the public domain. The force has provided the channels, but the public’s willingness to use them and the system’s effectiveness in responding remain to be seen.
