Revealed! Cat Matlala Paid Top Cop After Taxi Boss Murder

Purported underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala is said to have paid a substantial amount of money to a top cop after a taxi boss murder. The funds were allegedly transferred in the aftermath of a prominent Pretoria taxi boss’s murder, painting a picture of high-level corruption and protection rackets within the South African Police Service.

Witness C stated that during a police raid on Matlala’s lavish home on 6 December 2024, the alleged kingpin became confrontational and made a series of stunning admissions. The officer testified that Matlala explicitly outlined a financial arrangement with the senior police official. He told the commission,

“Matlala informed us that the payments were for protection. He stated that as long as the money was flowing, he was safe from prosecution and arrest.”

This alleged deal was said to have been struck shortly after the killing of the notorious taxi figure, suggesting a direct link between the murder and the subsequent pay-offs.

The testimony took a deeper dive into the scandal with the presentation of audio evidence. In these recordings, Matlala is reportedly heard implicating a web of senior police officials in a conspiracy to target their own colleagues. The witness stated that the conversation escalated further when Matlala discussed a cancelled tender. Witness C revealed,

“In one recording, Matlala claims he received a letter from National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola confirming the cancellation of his health services tender, worth a staggering R360 million (approximately US$19.5 million).”

The alleged crime boss’s response was one of fury and intimidation. The witness continued,

“He was heard saying, ‘Ngizobanik’ amasheleni’ – a Zulu phrase meaning ‘I will give them shells [bullets],’ but in this context, it is a vernacular threat meaning he will expose them and fight back fiercely.”

Furthermore, the commission heard that Matlala’s boasts extended into the highest echelons of political power. Witness C testified that Matlala claimed to have been a significant financial backer for Minister Senzo Mchunu’s campaign to become president of the African National Congress. This assertion, if proven, would suggest an alarming intersection of alleged criminal enterprise and political kingmaking.

Throughout these proceedings, Shadrack Sibiya has maintained his innocence while expressing grave concerns for his personal safety. He has been quoted as stating, “I’m under siege,” and has firmly refused calls for his resignation, insisting he will clear his name.
