In an exclusive conversation, Mthembu revealed that her decision to step back into the spotlight was born from a period of intense personal growth. She explains that the break was essential for her well-being, allowing her to return with a completely renewed perspective.
“I took that time away to protect my inner peace and to focus on some serious self-work,” Mthembu confesses. “Now, I am approaching this experience from a position of strength, not mere survival. My mental and spiritual state is entirely different, and I am eager to display that evolution on screen.” She admits that the unique energy of reality television is a powerful draw, stating, “Once you’ve had a taste of that world, it’s a challenge not to miss the excitement.”
This personal transformation shaped her entire approach to the new show. Her goal was not to seek out conflict but to authentically represent herself and her city.
“My intention was straightforward: to enter with an open heart, to genuinely enjoy myself, and to represent Durban with both grace and a bit of that signature spice,” she says with a laugh. “I had no intention of looking for drama, but I was equally determined not to diminish my own light or to stay silent when it mattered.”
