Robert Mugabe Junior Freed On Bail As Syndicate Allegations Grow
Robert Mugabe Junior, the son of the late former President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe, has been granted bail of US$300 (approximately R5,500) after spending two nights in custody. Magistrate Lisa Mutendereki set the bail on Friday, 3 October 2025.
Mugabe Junior must report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) once every Friday. He is also required to remain at his given address until the case is finalised. His next court appearance is scheduled for 22 October 2025.
The ruling comes as police continue to allege that Mugabe Junior is linked to a wider drug syndicate.
Bail Granted With Strict Conditions
The Harare Magistrates Court confirmed that Mugabe Junior, aged 33, would not walk free without conditions.
Prosecutor Mandirasa Chigumira told the court:
“The accused shall report every Friday at CID Drugs and Narcotics. He shall reside at his given address until this matter is finalised.”
The police are tying Mugabe Junior to a group that includes Phillip Munetsi Chiyangwa, son of businessman Phillip Chiyangwa.
Police Allegations Of A Syndicate
The Zimbabwe Republic Police issued a statement on 2 October 2025 linking Mugabe Junior to several other suspects.
Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said:
“The haul from the syndicate consisted of 25 sachets of Indo hybrid dagga and six ecstasy pills.”
The alleged network also includes Mitchel Jackson (28), Simbarashe Kaseke (37), Wellington Icube (19), Phillip Munetsi Chiyangwa (26), and Tanaka Kashamba (25).
This contrasts with the court account, where Mugabe Junior was said to have been found with a smaller stash during a traffic stop.
Prosecutor Chigumira outlined to the magistrate:
“Upon searching the accused’s black sling bag, police officers recovered two sachets of dagga, one pack of Rizla, and a white dagga crusher.”
The recovered dagga was weighed at 2 grams, with an estimated value of US$30 (R550).
Previous Run-Ins With The Law
Mugabe Junior has faced legal issues before.
In February 2023, he was arrested after what was described as a drunken incident at a house party, where cars and property were damaged. That case was later withdrawn after he paid compensation.
His lawyer, Ashiel Mugiya, is again representing him in the current matter.
Magistrate Mutendereki ordered that Mugabe Junior return to court on 22 October 2025 as investigations into the alleged drug syndicate continue.
