A security guard is facing a charge of attempted murder after he stabbed a patron for trying to leave a nightclub without authorisation. Mpumelelo Masuku, a forty-year-old man employed to protect patrons, stands accused of a vicious knife attack on a customer who allegedly attempted to leave the premises without his authorisation.
The case was brought before the Gwanda Regional Magistrate, Sithembiso Ndebele, where the accused entered a plea of not guilty. Prosecutor Ngonidzashe Shumba outlined a harrowing sequence of events to the court, alleging that the confrontation began when the complainant tried to exit the Ndlovini Bottle Store. Shumba stated,
“The accused, who was manning the main entrance, blocked the complainant’s path. When the man subsequently found another way to leave, this action provoked the security guard immensely.”

What began as a disagreement swiftly escalated into a life-threatening pursuit. The prosecutor detailed a frantic chase that culminated in a horrific assault.
“After being pushed to the ground, the victim managed to get back on his feet and fled for his safety,” Shumba told the magistrate.
The court heard that the accused gave chase, and upon catching up with the fallen man, the situation turned exceptionally brutal. Shumba continued,
“When the complainant fell and lay on his stomach, Masuku produced an okapi knife and stabbed him six times on the back, once on the left thigh and once on the right thigh. He also picked a brick and hit the complainant on his left cheek.”
Following the alleged attack, Masuku is said to have fled the scene, abandoning the severely injured victim. It was left to concerned villagers to rush to the man’s aid. The authorities were promptly alerted, and the wounded man was transported to a medical facility for urgent treatment.
