Six Die At The Scene

Bulawayo Chief Fire Officer Mhlangano Moyo confirmed the accident and said the victims were travelling in the Nissan NV350.

“This accident happened 15km before Filabusi, Amazon area. It was a Nissan NV350 kombi with 10 passengers heading to Filabusi from the Highlanders match. The vehicle rammed into the rear of a tipper truck,” said Moyo.

He confirmed that six people died at the scene, while four others suffered injuries.

Our Insiza-trained RDC team responded, attended and extricated the trapped casualties,” he said.

Rescue teams had to work through the wreckage to free those trapped inside the vehicle.

Kombi Crashes Into Stranded Truck

The accident happened about 15 kilometres from Filabusi when a Nissan NV350 Caravan carrying the Highlanders supporters collided with the rear of a stationary tipper truck.

A white Honda Fit was also involved after reportedly crashing into the wreckage.

Philimon Sibanda, a shop owner at Amazon Business Centre, was among the first people to reach the scene.

He said the tipper truck had been abandoned beside the road after developing a mechanical problem.

The accident involved three vehicles but there was no one in the tipper truck as it had developed a fault in the afternoon and the driver left it on the side of the road. The fire brigade team had to cut metal to free survivors from the wreckage,” said Sibanda.

The impact left several people trapped inside the wreckage.
