Strive Masiyiwa’s Two Daughters Now On Econet Wireless Board Following Latest Director Appointments

Two Of Strive Masiyiwa’s Daughters Now On Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Board

Strive Masiyiwa’s two daughters now serve on the Econet Wireless board after the company confirmed new director appointments effective 1 October 2025. The latest announcement adds Sarah Masiyiwa to the board as an Alternate Director, joining her sister Elizabeth Tanya, who has served since April 2022.

The development cements the next generation’s involvement in the telecommunications empire founded by their father.

A return of a veteran and a new family voice

In a statement dated 30 September 2025, the Board of Directors confirmed two key appointments. Veteran executive Mrs Tracy Mpofu has been named a Non-Executive Director, while Ms Sarah Masiyiwa has been appointed as her Alternate Director.

The board highlighted Mrs Mpofu’s long career within the group:

“Tracy has extensive experience across African markets and has held several senior leadership roles within the Econet Wireless Group, including Group Chief Finance Officer, Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Operating Officer.”

A Chartered Accountant and MBA graduate from the University of Zimbabwe, Mrs Mpofu has more than four decades of experience in telecommunications and the fast-moving consumer goods sector.

Alongside her, the board welcomed Sarah Masiyiwa, emphasising her diverse international background.

“She brings a strong background in investment strategy and business development to the Board. She currently manages a diverse portfolio of private and public investments, including oversight of their legal and financial frameworks.”

Sarah studied Economics and Journalism at New York University and has worked in investment, business development, and film production with major international media companies.

A growing family legacy on the board

This is the second time a daughter of Strive Masiyiwa has taken up a board role at Econet Wireless. In April 2022, the board announced the appointment of Elizabeth Tanya Masiyiwa, effective 1 April that year. Her appointment followed Strive Masiyiwa’s decision to step down as a director in February 2022.

At the time, the board described her:

“as a senior executive, social entrepreneur and philanthropist. She serves on a number of Boards including Higherlife Foundation where she is the Head of Design and Innovation.”

Elizabeth Tanya also sits on the Harvard University Leadership Council for the Centre of African Studies and has pursued advanced studies at Cambridge University, Bayes Business School, and Hult International Business School.

With Sarah’s appointment in October 2025, both sisters now sit on the board, strengthening the Masiyiwa family’s direct role in the company’s governance.

The latest statement concluded with remarks from Econet Board Chairman, Dr J. Myers:

“The Board of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited congratulates Mrs Mpofu and Ms Masiyiwa on their appointments and looks forward to their valuable contributions.”
