Swiss Express Bus Employees Arrested for Altering Receipts and Stealing R1.2 Million

Two employees of Swiss Express luxury coaches were arrested after being accused of diverting over R1 million into their personal accounts.

Doreen Moyo and Muziwethu Ndlovu appeared in court yesterday before Senior Regional Magistrate Mark Dzira, facing charges of theft.

Both pleaded not guilty and were remanded out of custody after posting US$500 bail each.

Court Orders and Conditions

The magistrate set strict conditions for the accused while out on bail. Both were required to:

  • Surrender their passports
  • Stay at their provided addresses
  • Avoid interfering with state witnesses

Additionally, Moyo and Ndlovu must report every Friday to the Commercial Crimes Division (CCD) in Bulawayo while investigations continue.

Allegations Detail How the Theft Occurred

Prosecutor Hazel Ncube told the court that between May 11, 2025, and January 30, 2026, the employees allegedly altered receipt books at the Swiss Express office located at Fife Street and 6th Avenue in Bulawayo.

The total amount reportedly diverted was R1,208,400. As clerks, the accused had access to the company’s computer system using their personal passwords, which prosecutors say enabled the alleged theft.

The fraud came to light when two customers attempted to hitchhike to Gwanda with fake bus tickets. An inspector noticed the irregularities, which led to an investigation and the eventual arrest of Moyo and Ndlovu.

Next Steps

The case remains under investigation, and authorities have pledged to ensure that all evidence is thoroughly examined. The court will resume hearings on March 9, 2026, to continue with the trial.
