Private School Teachers To Earn Up To US$1,397 Under New USD Wage Deal
Private school teachers and education sector workers could now earn up to US$1,397 (approx. R25,150) following the release of a new minimum wage schedule captured in a Collective Bargaining Agreement, with authorities confirming that salaries will largely be denominated in United States dollars.
The development was confirmed on 9 April 2026, when Permanent Secretary for Information Nick Mangwana shared details of the wage structure and payment framework, clarifying how institutions across different categories will implement the new salary scales.
Salaries To Be Paid In USD Or ZWG Equivalent
Introducing the update, Mangwana explained that the Collective Bargaining Agreement clearly outlines the currency structure for payments.
“The wages captured in the Collective Bargaining Agreement are denominated in United States dollars (US$). The NGO sector shall continue to pay salaries in United States dollars whilst the other sectors shall pay in US$ or the ZWG equivalent in line with Statutory Instrument 185 of 2020.”
He further explained that payments may also follow the prevailing bank rate where applicable.
“(Exchange Control (Exclusive Use of the Zimbabwe Dollar for Domestic Transactions) (Amendment) Regulations, 2020 (No. 3), or the prevailing bank rate, whichever is greater.”
The clarification means NGO-run institutions will continue paying strictly in US dollars, while other education institutions may pay either in US$ or local currency equivalent.

The agreement also provides for fixed allowances across all categories.
