Head-On Impact With Haulage Truck
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the Honda Fit, which was travelling from Mutoko to Kotwa, collided head-on with a haulage truck heading towards Harare.
Police said preliminary indications suggest the Honda Fit veered into the lane of oncoming traffic, leading to the crash.
All ten occupants of the vehicle died at the scene. The haulage truck was carrying four people, whose conditions were not immediately disclosed.
Police Confirm Incident
The ZRP confirmed the tragedy through a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, adding that investigations are still ongoing and more details will be released in due course.
Social Media Reacts to Overloading Concerns
The incident has triggered widespread discussion on social media, with many Zimbabweans questioning how ten people were travelling in a Honda Fit.
Online users have also raised concerns about road safety enforcement, asking how such an overloaded vehicle managed to pass through police roadblocks and checkpoints undetected.
Here are some of the comments:
@KingJayZim;
What a tragedy. May the departed rest in peace. But how did they pass the police checkpoints? 10 people in a Honda Fit?
@IsheSvosve;
Honestly how does a 5 seater Honda Fit passes @PoliceZimbabwe check points carrying 10 passengers? The first to answer must be the ZRP officers manning all checkpoints the Honda Fit passed through. @KazembeKazembe3
@maguranyanga;
This appalling nonsense of a tiny car carrying even 3 times its legal limit and actually traversing our highways casually MUST STOP! Now!
@AKapposa;
This Honda Fit vehicle model has killed so many people and it continues to kill, clearly it’s not fit to operate as a commercial passenger vehicle. Why is nothing being done to stop this killing?
@maz_mai;
How was a Honda fit carrying 10 people
Unfortunately that is the order of the day in our environment 2 in front plus driver to make them 3 , 4 pakati and 3 mu boot. That makes 10.
