Thabo Senong Backs Zimbabwe PSL As South African Players Eye New Opportunities
South African coach Thabo Senong believes Zimbabwe’s top-flight football is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for players from across the region.
Senong has encouraged South African footballers to look beyond their country’s borders and consider opportunities in the Castle Lager Premiership.
The FC Platinum coach made the comments ahead of his first official visit to Rufaro Stadium.
He will lead FC Platinum against reigning champions Scottland in a high-profile Premiership encounter.

Senong sees changing fortunes
Senong’s arrival at FC Platinum has already marked a significant development in Zimbabwean football.
He became the first high-profile South African coach to take charge of a domestic Premiership club.
Now, he believes the league is changing its image by improving the way clubs treat their players.
Speaking to South African football website FARPost, Senong said the quality of the domestic competition was improving.
“For sure, the league is becoming a very good and interesting product,” Senong said.
He pointed to player welfare as one of the biggest indicators of the league’s progress.
“If you look at how clubs are taking care of players, that tells you a lot because the game belongs to the players,” he said.
Senong predicts South African influx
The FC Platinum coach believes Zimbabwe could soon see South African players following the same route.
He said improved player packages and better treatment could change perceptions about the local league.
“If we, as the leadership, as football administrators and the technical teams, take care of players, then it will attract players from everywhere,” Senong said.
He urged South African players to remain open-minded when opportunities arise outside their home country.
“I would urge players to open themselves up to opportunities outside the borders. If you get a chance to come to Zimbabwe, take it,” he said.
Senong added that perceptions about poor player welfare in Zimbabwe were changing.
“The narrative that players are not taken care of here is changing. Clubs are now looking after players properly and the league is becoming a very good product,” he said.
