Legend Doctor Khumalo Praises Brandon Petersen After Kaizer Chiefs’ ZESCO Win
Kaizer Chiefs kept their CAF Confederation Cup hopes alive with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over ZESCO United, a performance that drew praise from veteran club legend Doctor Khumalo, who singled out goalkeeper Brandon Petersen for his influence in the win.
The result lifted Amakhosi to seven points from four group matches, leaving them firmly in contention for a place in the knockout stages with two decisive fixtures still to play.
Brandon Petersen Impresses in Crucial Victory
According to iDiskiTimes, Doctor Khumalo praised goalkeeper Brandon Petersen for his performance, saying it was further proof that the 31-year-old has firmly established himself as Kaizer Chiefs’ first-choice shot-stopper.
“And I’m looking at the goalkeeping department, and they’ve finally found a keeper that is doing so well. Hence, I’m saying these coaches what they’ve done so far, they’ve found a keeper that will be the keeper for Chiefs. Without any doubt, the game is teacher, we saw how Petersen saved the goal,” Khumalo said.
Petersen produced a series of key saves to preserve the narrow lead, underlining his growing influence in high-pressure matches.

Khumalo also credited the Chiefs technical team for showing faith in Petersen and allowing him the confidence to flourish. He noted that consistency and trust from the bench had been vital in helping the goalkeeper grow into the role.

According to the former midfield maestro, Chiefs have struggled in recent seasons to find stability in the goalkeeping department, but Petersen’s recent performances suggest the club may finally have a long-term solution between the posts.
Group Qualification Still Wide Open
With Zamalek topping the group on eight points and Al Masry level with Chiefs on seven, Amakhosi remain in control of their own destiny. Chiefs host Al Masry before travelling to face Egyptian giants Zamalek, with qualification still within reach.
Busy Schedule Ahead for Amakhosi
Before returning to continental action, Chiefs shift focus to domestic competition as they face Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup on Wednesday. Attention will then turn back to Africa when they welcome Al Masry at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday in what could prove to be a defining match of their campaign.
