Grade 4 Boy Hangs Himself After Lunch Box Dispute

A Grade 4 boy from Victoria Falls has taken his own life after a dispute over a lunch box with his grandmother. The incident has left the family devastated, with the father describing his son as a “brilliant boy.”

Family In Shock

According to H-Metro, the boy, identified as Nyasha Rukobo, was found hanging from a Jatropha tree. His father, Adore Rukobo, confirmed that his son’s body had been taken to Mberengwa for burial at Rukovo Village.

In his words, the grieving father said:

“We lost a brilliant boy who was always the top student in his class. The misunderstanding with his grandmother escalated and, after being threatened with punishment and denial of food, he became angry and left home.”

The Dispute Over A Lunch Box

The tragedy began after Nyasha’s grandmother gave his younger brother permission to use his lunch box. Reports say Nyasha had objected because he feared his brother might lose it.

As fate would have it, the younger sibling misplaced the lunch box. Nyasha reportedly assaulted him severely in anger.

When their grandmother intervened to stop the fight, the Grade 4 pupil stormed out of the house. His body was later discovered hanging from a tree.

Burial Steeped In Custom

The burial, held in Mberengwa, followed strict cultural traditions linked to cases of suicide. According to the report, mourners were not allowed to conduct the funeral inside the homestead.

Instead, the service was performed outside with all doors locked. This was done to keep away spirits that are believed to linger after a suicide.

In addition, mourners were not permitted to bath during the period, and Nyasha’s body was also kept outside the homestead.
