Grammys 2026 Fallout As Nicki Minaj Responds To Trevor Noah
Trevor Noah’s opening monologue at the 2026 Grammy Awards has sparked a fresh storm online after Nicki Minaj fired back with a late-night post that quickly drew millions of views. The exchange unfolded after Noah joked about Minaj during the live broadcast, prompting the rapper to issue a sharp response on social media in the early hours of February 2, 2026.
The moment has since dominated entertainment headlines. It has also raised questions about what was said on stage, why Minaj reacted so strongly, and how politics became entangled in one of music’s biggest nights.
Trevor Noah Mimics Donald Trump During Grammys Monologue
During the Grammy Awards ceremony on February 1, 2026, hosted at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, Trevor Noah singled out Nicki Minaj during his opening monologue.
After praising several artists in attendance, including Queen Latifah, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, and Bad Bunny, Noah paused and drew attention to Minaj’s absence.
“Nicki Minaj is not here,” Noah said. “She is still at the White House with Donald Trump discussing very important issues.”
Noah then shifted into a mock impersonation of President Donald Trump, adopting Trump’s signature cadence and mannerisms. He staged an imaginary debate between Trump and Minaj about whose buttocks were larger, referencing Minaj’s long-standing body-positive lyrics and her 2014 hit song Anaconda.
“Actually Nicki, I have the biggest a—,” Noah said, speaking in Trump’s voice.
“Everybody’s saying it, Nicki. They all say it.”
He continued the impersonation, weaving in Minaj’s rap rival Cardi B for added punch:
“I know they say it’s you, but it’s me. WAP, WAP, WAP. Look at it, baby.”
The brief segment blended politics, celebrity rivalry, and pop culture humour into a single line. [USA Today] reports this was one of several politically charged jokes during Noah’s monologue, which later referenced Trump’s interest in Greenland and Jeffrey Epstein.
Nicki Minaj Fires Back On Social Media
Hours later, Minaj responded publicly on X:
“Trevor refuses to come out the closet when everyone in the industry knows his boyfriend.
Allegedly.”
The post attracted around 3.5 million views within hours. Minaj did not elaborate further or provide evidence for the claim.
Her reaction followed weeks of heightened attention around her political affiliations. In December 2025, Minaj appeared at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest conference in Phoenix, where she praised President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. Speaking at the event, she said:
“I have the utmost respect and admiration for our president. He has given so many people hope that there’s a chance to beat the bad guys and to win.”
Minaj also joined Trump on January 28, 2026, for his Treasury Department-hosted Trump Accounts Summit, supporting a new pilot programme giving children born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, a one-time deposit of US$1000 (R23,000 approx.) in investment accounts.
Politics, Trump And Fallout From The Broadcast
The Grammys monologue also triggered a response from Donald Trump himself. Following Noah’s Epstein-related joke later in the show, Trump posted angrily on Truth Social. He wrote:
“The Grammy Awards are the WORST, virtually unwatchable… Noah said, INCORRECTLY, that Donald Trump and Bill Clinton spent time on Epstein Island. WRONG!!!”
Trump went on to threaten legal action against Noah, adding:
“Get ready Noah, I’m going to have some fun with you!”
Neither the Recording Academy nor representatives for Trevor Noah have issued a response to Minaj’s post or Trump’s remarks as of publication.
