Trinity Pharmacy Driver Gambles Away US$3 753 Company Money on Aviator
A 23-year-old driver at Trinity Pharmacy, Edwin Ziko stole US$3 753 of company funds and gambled it away on Aviator, also known locally as kandege.
The shocking misappropriation came to light after cash collected from two pharmacy branches failed to reach head office.

How the Funds Were Lost
Ziko’s job included collecting and delivering cash, giving him direct access to the funds.
On November 5, Ziko collected cash from Trinity Pharmacy’s Karigamombe branch in Harare’s Central Business District.
The envelopes contained US$1 400 and ZiG 400, which Ziko was responsible for delivering to the pharmacy’s head office. Instead, investigations later revealed, the funds were gambled away.
Later the same day, at the Chiremba Road branch in Hillside, Ziko received five more envelopes totaling US$2 353.
Once again, he allegedly diverted the money to fund his betting activities. To date, none of the stolen cash has been recovered.
Failure to Account for Cash Triggered Internal Investigation
Trinity Pharmacy’s human resources and administration officer, Fidelis Chiwada, confirmed that Ziko failed to account for the collections, prompting formal investigations.
Driver Pleads Guilty in Court, Says He Hoped to “Multiply” the Money
According to The Herald, Ziko appeared before Harare magistrate Artwell Sanyatwe facing two counts of theft of trust property.
He pleaded guilty and expressed remorse, explaining that he had hoped to multiply the money rather than steal it.
Ziko is set to appear in court today for sentencing.
Social Media Reacts
Social media users reacted with shock and amusement to the news of Ziko gambling away company funds on Aviator.
Many joked about the risks of the popular betting game, with one user warning, “Chidenge chinorova!” while another quipped that the government should consider classifying it as a drug.
Others sarcastically criticized the driver’s actions, noting that money doesn’t magically multiply and questioning the logic of using company funds for gambling.
