Heartbroken Truck Driver Kills Self & 4-Year-Old Son At In-Law’s Home After Catching Wife Red-Handed
A heartbroken truck driver allegedly killed himself and his young son at his in-law’s home in Chitungwiza after reportedly catching his wife red-handed with another man and later receiving disturbing messages, in a tragic incident.
The incident, which reportedly happened over the weekend of March 21–22, 2026, involved Tonderai Spacious Mukaro (31), who had travelled from South Africa to Zimbabwe with his child before the suspected murder-suicide at his brother-in-law’s house in St Mary’s, Chitungwiza.
According to The Herald, Mukaro allegedly buried the child in a shallow grave before taking his own life.
“He Came From South Africa Distressed”
Mukaro’s brother-in-law, Robert Kanyangarara, said the truck driver arrived from South Africa after reportedly discovering that his wife, Christine Mashavire (31), had been involved in an extra-marital affair.
Kanyangarara said Mukaro appeared deeply troubled and confided in him about what had happened.
“Mukaro came from South Africa saying he had caught his wife pants down with their landlord,” said Kanyangarara.
He added that the situation worsened after the confrontation.
“What disturbed him a lot was that after he returned home from work, his landlord ordered him to leave the house and his wife supported the landlord’s decision.”
According to Kanyangarara, Mukaro then travelled to Zimbabwe with the child and indicated that he wanted to deliver a message to his in-laws.
“He told me that he wanted to end his life because of that and I tried to resolve the matter saying the incident was not worth his life and he appeared to have accepted it.”
Disturbing Messages Before The Tragedy
Kanyangarara said his last conversation with Mukaro took place around midnight.
He believes what happened afterwards may have pushed Mukaro over the edge.
“My last conversation with Mukaro was at around midnight when he told me that he had received some nude photographs sent by his wife when she was with the landlord.”
He also claimed Mukaro received more shocking news.
“She also told him that the baby was not his. I want to believe that could have led him to commit suicide as his wife had indicated that she wanted to send her younger sister to collect the baby the following day.”
He added:
“It is so sad and disturbing that two lives have gone because of mujolo (romantic relationship issues).”
Community Shocked By Discovery
According to a local resident, the bodies were discovered the following morning after Mukaro and the child were reported missing from the dining room where they had been sleeping.
The resident said Mukaro was found lying near a shallow grave.
“As residents, we were shocked. The house is inside a pre-cast wall, otherwise passers-by could have seen the two.”
The resident added:
“There were no visible injuries and no signs of struggle or blood stains at the scene.”
It was also reported that a suspected poison bottle was found near the scene and a cloth had allegedly been stuffed into the child’s mouth.
The bodies were reportedly taken to Chitungwiza Central Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
The matter was reported at St Mary’s Police Station.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.
