New Business Development in Karoi
KAROI — Twin Gate Shopping Centre is steadily establishing itself as a new commercial and entertainment destination in Karoi, with approximately 75 percent of its available business space now occupied by a growing mix of retailers, service providers and leisure operators.
Owned by South African-based Industrial Psychologist, entrepreneur and businessman Hillary Tomu, the US$1.8 million development has attracted businesses operating across the automotive, pharmaceutical, insurance, clothing, grocery, hardware and entertainment sectors.
Among the businesses operating at Twin Gate is Transerve, one of Zimbabwe’s well-known suppliers of automotive parts and related products. The centre is also home to Kopje Spares, a major supplier of genuine motor spares, vehicle accessories and heavy-duty bus parts.
The automotive businesses have helped broaden the centre’s appeal beyond conventional shopping, providing motorists and transport operators in and around Karoi with access to vehicle parts and accessories.
The tenant mix also includes Karoi 24 Hour Pharmacy, providing convenient access to pharmaceutical products and services, as well as a baby-wear and clothing outlet. Two insurance companies have also taken up space at the development, alongside a grocery store, hardware businesses and several other operators.

Beyond retail and essential services, Twin Gate is developing a strong food and entertainment component.
One of its major attractions is 24 Missed Calls, a nightclub and entertainment venue that has attracted patrons to the complex, particularly during evenings and weekends. The venue has helped give Twin Gate a different character after normal retail trading hours.
Visitors can also enjoy a popular tshisa nyama and butchery, adding a food and social element to the shopping centre and creating a place where customers can spend time beyond simply visiting shops.
Tomu said the variety of businesses operating at the centre was part of a broader vision to create a development capable of serving different needs within one location.
The Zimbabwean businessman, who is based in South Africa where he works professionally as an Industrial Psychologist while pursuing other business interests, invested back home through the development of Twin Gate.
With about three-quarters of its commercial space already occupied, Twin Gate is gradually building a diverse business community while contributing to economic activity and employment in Karoi.
The current development is also expected to form part of a much bigger long-term investment at the property, with Tomu planning further facilities that will expand Twin Gate beyond its present role as a shopping centre.
For now, the combination of automotive businesses, healthcare services, insurance providers, clothing and grocery outlets, hardware stores, food businesses and nightlife is helping position Twin Gate as a place where shopping, services and entertainment come together under one development.
