Tents Cut Open as Tourists Slept
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, on the night of 10 September 2024, the pair, working with an accomplice who remains at large, targeted Vundu Bush Safari Camp.
They gained access to several tourist tents by slicing through the canvas material while guests were asleep inside, stealing high-value property belonging to international visitors.
High-Value Equipment Among Stolen Goods
Items stolen during the raids included professional-grade Canon, Nikon, Fuji and Leica cameras, camera lenses, backpacks, watches and significant amounts of cash in foreign currency, along with other personal belongings.
The crimes were only discovered the following morning, triggering swift investigations by authorities.
Arrested Across the Border With Stolen Property
Later on 11 September 2024, the two men were arrested in the Zambia game area by officials from the Zambia Wildlife Authority.
At the time of their arrest, they were found in possession of the stolen items, providing crucial evidence that led to their conviction.
Court Sends Strong Warning
In passing sentence, the court noted that the offences posed a serious threat to public safety, violated the privacy of tourists and risked damaging Zimbabwe’s reputation as a safe tourism destination.
Authorities warned that crimes targeting visitors and protected areas would continue to attract severe penalties.
