Two Killed, Toddler Hospitalised After Truck Crashes into Honda Fit on Bulawayo–Beitbridge Highway

Two people were killed after a truck crashed into a Honda Fit on the Bulawayo–Beitbridge Highway. A toddler was hospitalised following the accident and remains in critical condition.

The Honda Fit was hit from behind by a truck near the March Binding area on Wednesday morning.

One of the deceased victims is reported to have been a school pupil.

Bulawayo Fire and Rescue Services Respond

Bulawayo Fire and Rescue Services attended the scene, where their crew worked to extricate those trapped in the wreckage.

Chief Fire Officer Mhlangano Moyo confirmed the accident to B-Metro and provided details of the rescue operation.

There was a fatal road accident along the Gwanda Road at March Binding between a Honda Fit and a truck. Two people have been confirmed dead, one of them is a school child. Those who were trapped were extricated by the Brigade crew, and two patients were conveyed to the hospital by Brigade ambulance services. The toddler is in a critical condition,” said Moyo.

Preliminary Findings Point to Driver Error

According to preliminary reports, the truck — which was travelling towards Bulawayo — rammed into the Honda Fit that was coming from Sipezeni after it allegedly failed to give way.

Authorities Urge Caution on Highways

Authorities have repeatedly urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on the Bulawayo–Beitbridge highway, which has seen several fatal crashes in recent months.

Investigations into the latest incident are ongoing.
